As a long time advocate of avoiding repeated steroid injections, Dr. Bailie has focused his practice on biologics and surgical repair. A recent article, attached here, demonstrates that repeated steroid injections for the treatment of OA (osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis) may help the symptoms, but actually damages the knee further. This data would support the avoidance of multiple steroid injections. Unfortunately, many insurance carriers will not approve other treatments and actually MANDATE that these injections be performed, despite their detrimental affect on the human body. Dr. Bailie believes that diagnosis and treatment of any condition should be based on sound medical science, his experience/expertise and skill in collaboration with patients. He believes that the insurance carrier has no place in dictating care, as their obligation is to their own shareholders and not to patients’ quality of life.
