What our patients are saying

I am 51 years old and live in Houston. At 42 years old, I had a surgery to repair my labrum. It turned out I had a degenerative shoulder which my doctor was unable to repair. Over the years my shoulder deteriorated into a degenerative shoulder, torn rotator cuff and partially separated bicep tendon. In December 2018, I went back to my doctor and talked to him about any new solutions for my shoulder. He told me there were none at this point.
I have 3 boys and coached them all their young athletic lives. My shoulder left me unable to throw a baseball/football and unable to shoot a basketball. I had very, very limited range of motion. I continued to work around my shoulder in the gym. I work out almost every day. Through a gym injury I found myself at Propel Therapy in Houston who was doing therapy on one of Dr. Bailie’s patients at the time, it was this patient’s second Copeland procedure. Needless to say I reached out to Dr. Bailie and his team.
At the end of September 2018, I had my Copeland procedure as well as repaired the rotator cuff and bicep tendon. After 5 months and 1 day of rehab, through the guidance of Propel Therapy, I am now starting to throw a baseball for the first time in 8 years. I still have a ways to go but I am truly blessed and grateful for Dr. Bailie and his team to give me the ability to do something I never thought I would be able to do again.
Dr. Bailie and his team were amazing through the entire process. Dr. Bailie’s team is extremely helpful and quick to respond to every question. Dr. Bailie has been extremely helpful throughout out the entire process; he himself is quick to respond, easy to talk to and a very genuine person.
There is no doubt today, any one I know that has a shoulder problem I would highly recommend/insist they go see Dr. Bailie and his team, even with them being in a different city. I can’t thank him and his team enough for giving me the opportunity to do things everyone else said would not be possible.

I would have to go with phenomenal. As a fellow surgeon and colleague in the medical community his reputation precedes him”....mutual patients ...”who did your knee/shoulder?”
Bailie
“Are you better”
110%....over and over and over....every patient same comment
In the gym as a former competitive bodybuilder...”dude...no....go see Bailie “.....so I did when it was my turn to be the patient ....
I would say Phoenix does not lack good Physicians and surgeons....
However few reach the phenomenal stage and maybe an overused term but but that best describes this doctor.
You take a highly highly skilled surgeon, knowledgeable in the technicalities of his profession
Yet can apply his common sense and experience ...add the best rehab program with Todd Ellenbecker....great staff....
And you have “The Total Package”
He has inspired me to improve aspects of my own practice and office as well
Dr Bailie...can’t thank you enough

I had Dr. Bailie replace my shoulder almost 10 years ago (Copeland procedure) and it was the best decision I've made. I live in Houston but made the trip to Phoenix because of the number of Copeland procedures he had completed at the time (even more now). I now need my other shoulder replaced (heavy weight lifing in my younger years trashed both) and I am going back to him to make sure it is done right. The shoulder he replace 10 years ago works great and has been problem free. Thanks Dr. Bailie.

I am a 69 year old women who owes many of her athletic abilities to Dr. Bailie. I was in severe pain with both of my shoulders and could hardly do any normal tasks let alone anything athletic. In 2009 and 2010 Dr. Bailie performed his majic and replaced both my shoulders! Both surgeries were very professionally handled and in each case, I really felt he honestly cared about me and my results. I feel like I have 25 yr. old shoulders! Now, I swim 30-40 laps three times a week, do weight training and just simply live life with no shoulder pain. Recently I began having some knee pain and once again, Dr. Bailie will be my answer. He diagnosed the problem quickly and we will be fixing it soon. I am on Medicare and could have another doctor do the surgery on their dollar but I don't want anyone else to operate. I will gladly pay his fee (well, kinda gladly, haha) to know my knee will be fixed right. I highly recommend Dr. Bailie and feel so happy I discovered him in the complicated orthopedic world!

With this testimonial, I would like to thank (a lot) David Bailie for the great job he did with me. His technical skills, along with his empathy and humanity, are unusual gifts in this “industry" He fixed my shoulder when everybody told me it wasn't possible. Instead of telling me to erase my long career as professional bodybuilder, he gave me another opportunity to show to everybody that we can defy age. I came back to my usual training style and I'm able to do lifts now as before with incline presses, overhead presses , lateral raises and all the exercises I just was just dreaming about before the surgery. I came from Italy to see Dr. Bailie and would make the trip again.

Throughout my medical career as a surgical assistant/tech/scrub, I’ve been privileged to work alongside and assist amazing surgeons. I’ve worked with Dr Bailie for several years, and I must be honest, he isn’t the easiest surgeon to assist. Not in a bad way, on the contrary… it’s because of Dr Bailie’s level of knowledge in Orthopedics.

As a surgical assistant, you must anticipate, cater, and support your surgeons needs with instrumentation, medical implants, and anything particular that is to the surgical procedure. When I would be assigned to assist Dr Bailie, I had to be prepared for everything. Let me reiterate…Not anything, but EVERYTHING.

Dr Bailie is very meticulous, and a perfectionist; and so, must his supporting crew in the Operating Room suite. That’s what you want in a surgeon, someone who’s knowledgeable in the latest technology and well-versed in the most advanced medical devices and instruments, the surgical industry has to offer.

So, it was a no-brainer when deciding who would surgically repair my shoulder injury. Additionally, when other Physicians, get injured and need surgery; they go to Dr Bailie. Including those in the Orthopedic specialty; which says a lot about his integrity and ethics.

As a patient, everything is different in the environment I consider my second home. Anxiety, doubt, and fear come into play. Dr Bailie treated me with respect, honored my privacy, and very empathetic to me as his patient. He made sure that I understood my options, answered all my questions; and again, most importantly, my privacy and the confidentiality of being his patient was & remains to be top-notch.

My shoulder is fantastic, I’ve never had an issue; and would go to him in a heartbeat if I ever need an orthopedic surgical repair again. Take it from an Operating Room staff, you don’t want to settle for just any surgeon… you want Dr. David Bailie.

Dr. Bailie and his staff are great. I have had two knee surgeries and injections and all has greatly improved my ability to exercise and be free of pain. It is very convenient to have x-ray equipment as well as physical therapy right on site. I would recommend Dr. Bailie to anyone, especially for sports related injuries.

I have had two knee surgeries and orthovisc injections from D. Bailie. Member Comments: Dr. Bailie and his staff are the best, always very professional outlining options for treatment. The pre-surgery information given is excellent allowing you to know exactly what to expect and what you need to do to prepare. HIs follow up is great and having a one stop shop is a great idea and very convenient for busy individuals.

Excellent surgeon. I know three friends that have utilized Dr. Bailie's services for shoulder surgery (labrum and rotator cuff), and two acquaintances for knee surgery, and I have been to him myself. He is easy to talk to, highly knowledgeable, and courteous. His outcomes have been excellent with everyone I know that had surgery with him. I would highly recommend Dr. Bailie for both shoulder and knee diagnosis and/or surgery.

All of the people I know who have been to Dr Bailie have had remarkable outcomes and highly, highly recommend him. Some friends have traveled from other states so it's easy to see why he can be tough to get into. I would rather wait a bit longer in the waiting room than to get an appt and he had an excellent massage therapist in waiting room for all of us to utilize! He was efficient and direct and I liked that he didn't sugar coat anything. He operated on some of my friends and me and sent others for therapy. I'm glad he's a perfectionist. It shows! He answered every email and question in person. He called each one of us after surgery. His outcomes were always excellent and its evident he wants his patients to get back to living life ASAP . No wonder the doctors we've spoken to in the community send their family members to him!

Many thanks to Dr. Bailie for repairing my right shoulder. I was educated and prepared for the surgery and recovery. His staff was courteous and helpful. Dr Bailie repaired the left rotator cuff in 2010 and the right rotator cuff in 2012. While repairing the right rotator cuff he noticed the bicep tendon had partial tears and re-anchor the torn tendon back to the bone and did a subacromial decompression. I am extremely grateful l that he did a thorough job of reviewing all aspects of the shoulder. He called the next day after each surgery to ensure all is well and the pain level was tolerable. He also supplied me 2 dozen excellent photos of the before and after repairs doing the surgery. Needless to say I would not have return to the same surgeon for the identical operation on the other shoulder unless I was extremely satisfied with the first surgery. One final note is to always follow post-op instructions cause not matter how good the surgery, the final outcome is your hands of going through the rehabilitation process and being patient to heal properly. Kudos to Accelerated Rehabilitation Centers which is managed by an athletic trainer who spent over 25 years with MBL & NHL leagues.

Dr. Bailie comprehensive medical expertise and compassionate bedside manner are unsurpassed only by his pursuit of innovative medical technologies designed to enhance his patient’s care and quality of life. I just recently had my 2nd surgery with Dr. Bailie and this is our 3rd between my wife and I. We both had right rotators/bicep surgery and both were very successful. He explained to us that it would be a full year recovery with exercises and he was spot on. 17 months after my right shoulder, I had my left shoulder/bicep repaired. The only reason I did was because of the success and strength of the right one. I am very active, 46 years old, and to me it was the best thing. Awesome doctor who knows his stuff. Also, on a side note, when we first looked at my right shoulder, he didn't like what he saw in the X-rays, so we had an MRI. His initial guess from looking at X-rays was that I had Padget's Disease. Guess what, it turned out that after visiting with a specialist at Mayo, I did in fact have it. Luckily, it is dormant. Anyhow, we have recommended Dr. Bailie to anyone who asks about needing help with their shoulders and knees. Very confident in his knowledge and expertise. Thanks for allowing me to get back to doing what I love to do with NO PAIN. Cheers, Vic Houze

Rotator cuff issues. Dr. Bailie provided fast, responsive and thorough medical care to include office visit, MRI and follow up. He took a good amount of time to explain and show me the mechanics of my issue and coordinated an appropriate recovery path. Excellent presences in front of the patient. He did not make me feel as if he was rushed or short cutting my time to discuss my medical issues.

I saw Dr Bailie, he was nice & very fast! They took X-rays before I went in, he didn't order an MRI (surprise surprise!!) for shoulder or knee. My knee has arthritis, he explained the how's & why's & fixes which starts with physical therapy then if that doesn't work, a very light "cleaning up" type surgery. My shoulder is just what the chiropractor had said. I wanted to confirm because it is a recurring injury. Overall, I was impressed. He was a little quick & fast in the appointment but he answered all my questions very patiently. Two thumbs up to Dr Bailie!

I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. David Bailie for over five years as a registered nurse at an outpatient facility in the valley. He is extremely kind and professional in the care of his patients from beginning to end. The surgical process is smooth, organized; he performs above one’s expectations. He provides a high quality of service with a strong regard for the well-being of his patients. It has been, and continues to be a pleasure to work in his company.

He requires a high standard from his staff and requires everyone to be trained to ensure his patients have the highest level of care. Dr. Bailie has the best technique and quality of work which ensures the best outcome. He has done corrective surgeries on patients whose previous surgeries were inadequate, this speaks volumes about the quality of his practice.

If you have knee or shoulder problems, there is no one better than Dr. David Bailie. Dr. Bailie, has restored my ability to ski, run, golf, play tennis and compete (at a higher level) TWICE. Over the last 15 years he has replaced my ACL tendon in both knees using cadaver tendon’s. Each time the procedure and recovery have gone flawlessly. He is a great Doctor and guy to work with. He is committed to excellence, customer service and great service. I love that he is always looking at how to advance the healing and repair of knees and shoulders. He thinks outside of the box. Everyone says they know the best doctor for this or that. Dr. Bailie really is that guy for knees and shoulders!

My fiance nurse directed me to see Dr Bailie. I have not been good about seeing doctors for things I should have. I have been running a successful business since retiring from the Phoenix Police Dept so having the time to take care of myself as I should was put on the back burners. Dr Bailie and his staff are very efficient and work as a well oiled machine. From the short wait in the lobby to being taken to an exam room the staff quickly and professionally took care of me. Dr Bailie answered all my questions to my satisfaction in laymen terms. He talked to me, not at me. I would highly recommend Dr Bailie and his staff to others and to my family.

Had the Copeland Humeral Resurfacing procedure on right shoulder. Have been making exceptional progress! Still have a way to go as I am only 3 weeks post surgery but have been breaking through new ceilings after every rehabilitation session. Knowing that my progress will eventually plateau, I have cause to be excited as I have surprised not only myself but those responsible for my rehab. Dr. Bailie has performed so many of these procedures and is extremely detail oriented with not only his surgical staff but also with who he wants conducting the rehab. Dr. Bailie is a surgeon who is measured and calculated and I am grateful to have had him perform my surgery. I am still an athlete and Dr. Bailie IS my best chance at returning to the reflection of what I once used to be.

I've had both shoulders surgically repaired by Dr. Bailie in the past three years with excellent results. No more shoulder pain, and I've got full range of motion back. When I started my search for the best shoulder surgeon, I asked several docs who they'd see. Without hesitation, all recommended Dr. Bailie. His offices, although large and shared by other orthopedic surgeons, are well run with very little/no wait. Staff is very helpful. Not only is Dr. Bailie very knowledgeable and skilled, but also very personable. I've never felt rushed, and he's always willing to explain in a way that's understood. He also makes sure that as a patient, he also has expectations of you. Physical therapy following surgery is an integral part of recovery. The physical therapists I've used have all agreed that Dr. Bailie's patients seem to have the best outcome (and I consider that the highest praise). I'm very thankful to have found him, and highly recommend him!

I saw Dr Bailie a few months ago because I was having intense pain in both knees and could barely bend down. The pain was waking me up in the middle of the night. I'm 36 and played basketball at the Division I level when I was younger, and all the wear and tear had worn down the cartilage in my knee. They X rayed my knees right there in the office and then I saw the doc. I didn't see him long but I feel like my case was really cut and dry and I didn't need a lot of explanation. He's very to the point and direct, and I felt like he explained everything to me and took the time to answer my questions. Knee surgery went great, it has been 12 days and although I have some residual surgery pain, overall I feel so much better. It's like having a new knee. He shaved down the cartilage, took out some loose pieces and removed a bone spur that was causing me massive pain. I know I am in good hands with him as my knee surgeon.

in 2013, in a skiing incident, I completely tore my ACL and meniscus. Dr. Bailie repaired the torn ACL with a hamstring graft (my own). I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to return to my active lifestyle. I downhill ski, snowboard, hike, waterski, run etc. I'm so happy to report that my knee is like brand new! I am back to all of my former activities without any problems. My knee is strong and never gives me any problems, even after a full day on the slopes. Thanks Dr. Bailie! I'm so grateful. Oh, and my scar is totally flat and so small it's barely noticible. I have worse ones from falling as a kid!

I saw Dr. Bailie for a knee issue and he was efficient and knowledgeable with the information he passed on to me. I followed his instructions and was able to heal without surgery. I again saw Dr. Bailie for an unrelated problem with the same knee, and this time it required surgery. He was direct, but caring, and provided the necessary follow-up and advice. I especially appreciated the physical therapy he directed me to. I learned so much from him, and he made me motivated to continue the recommended exercises at home. I have completely recovered from both knee injuries. On top of that, Dr. Bailie discovered a benign tumor right behind my knee that I would not have known about had he not ordered the MRI.
I had limited mobility in my left shoulder after my surgery by Dr. Bailie I have near or 100% use of my shoulder. Now my right shoulder needs to be done.

I had been suffering with shoulder pain for over 10 years. I had been to doctor after doctor, did X-Rays, MRI's, etc. and no one ever found a problem or believed me when I described the constant pain. Dr. Bailie found something that looked like a small tear on the CAT scan and offered to do surgery explaining that it may just need to be cleaned up inside. He cared about my pain. Not only was there a rotator cuff tear, there were two and they were complex. My shoulder no longer hurts and the physical therapists he sent me to, Accelerated Physical Therapy, were great!

I suffered through shoulder pain for a period of 7 years with numerous failed attempts, by various physicians, to diagnose my issue and fix it. I was eventually referred to Dr. Bailie by another physician. After a prompt diagnosis, successful surgery, and comprehensive rehab program with therapist Tom Colt, I am back to lifting weight 14 weeks after my surgery. And the best part is that I'm pain free for the first time in years.

This guy is the man. Who took EXCELLENT care of me, took all factors into consideration, tried all alternatives before agreeing to surgery and when surgery came, he did an incredible job. Having had 2 previous shoulder surgeries on the shoulder he operated on by other surgeons, he went in for surgery number 3 to fix me once and for all. After 3 years of shoulder issues and diminished quality of life, this man brought me back from the dead and fixed me once and for all and now here I am 7 months later working out pain free in the gym! Always took time to answer my questions, e-mails and worries PROMPTLY. Seriously, this dude is an idol of mine and it was an honor to be his patient.

Dr. Bailies office was one the most efficient offices I have been in. I felt Dr. Bailie gave my son a thorough exam and listened and attended to each need he had. Dr. David Bailie is a total magician when he has a scalpel in his hands. He has performed major shoulder surgery on both my right and left shoulder. I had a massive 5.0 cm rotator cuff and a 9 to 6 O'clock tear of my Labrum on the right. I had an equally massive 5.5 rotator cuff tear on my left with a bicep tendon tear as well. The outcomes are nothing short of spectacular. If he can do such a great job on my shoulders, He can fix anyone. Mine were as about as bad as you can get. I am pain free on both shoulders and my range of motion is excellent. I highly recommend him for any sort of shoulder surgery. Thanks Dr. Bailie.

I had two knee surgeries with Dr. Bailie about two years apart. My first surgery was for a torn meniscus in my left knee which I damaged while running. Since I had a ski trip planned, I was anxious to get the surgery done so that I would have enough time to heal before the trip. Dr. Bailie did a great job of working me into his schedule and repaired my knee arthroscopically. Less than five weeks later I went on my ski trip with no pain and full flexibility in my knee. Two years later, I tore the meniscus in my other knee and again Dr. Bailie repaired the knee arthroscopically. However since he found cartilage damage, Dr. Bailie performed micro-fracture surgery in addition to repairing the meniscus. While the healing process took longer, I was off of crutches in about 4-5 weeks and I started to easy back into light running a few months later. It’s been several years since I had the surgery done, and both of my knees are in great shape and I can run, hike, ski without hesitation or limitations. I would highly recommend Dr. Bailie as an orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Bailie treated me for a torn ACL due to ski accident. He analyzed it and although torn I appreciated that he advised I do physical therapy rather than surgery. He was most concerned for the quality of my life and what made the most sense for my lifestyle, not about getting me to do a surgery with him where he would profit. He also took care of our son and did shoulder surgery to repair his torn labrum. His explanation about the surgery was invaluable. He did a wonderful job on his shoulder. His follow up care was exceptional. We have, and will continue to, recommend Dr. Bailie to others. He is a talented and caring surgeon.

I have had the privilege of associating with Dr. David Bailie for the past 15 years as a patient and as a physical therapy provider. This has given me a unique perspective as to the quality of work Dr Bailie provides.

As a surgical patient, I presented to Dr Bailie with multiple rotator cuff tears as well as an almost completely torn labrum from working in professional baseball for many years. Thanks for Dr Bailie's expertise and superior surgical skills my injury is fully resolved and I have been symptom free for 10 plus years. His skills allowed me to continue with my profession of assisting athletes and patients with their rehabilitation programs. I am thoroughly satisfied with my outcome.

As the manager of a physical therapy clinic, we have serviced Dr Bailie's patients for 15 plus years. I have also shadowed Dr Bailie in his office over 100 times through the years and have observed many of his surgeries. I have found his attention to detail and absolute passion for his work to be second to none. We have seen consistently superior outcomes with his shoulder and knee patients, both surgical and non surgical. His rehabilitation expectations are very high which helps our therapists deliver the best possible care for his patients.

I highly recommend to anyone in need of shoulder and knee intervention to seek the care and skill of Dr David Bailie.

I've known Dr. Bailie for a number of years, initially as member of the Arizona Workers' Compensation industry and later, as my own orthopedic surgeon. I've had the opportunity to hear him present numerous times and he is phenomenal speaker with a wealth of knowledge. Additionally, the medical care that I received resulted in an improvement in the quality of my life. Since having my shoulder surgery 3 years ago and also having a fitness lifestyle, I am now able to perform at a higher level/intensity than at any other time. As a member of the rehab community, I would recommend Dr. Bailie for any of your speaking engagements or orthopedic consultations.

My name is Janet R. Martin, M.D., I am a fellowship trained Musculoskeletal Radiologist in Scottsdale, Arizona. I would like to take this opportunity to recommend an outstanding Orthopedic Surgeon and colleague, Dr. David Bailie. Dr. Bailie and I were introduced in 2005. Since that time, I have been interpreting MRIs for Dr. Bailie’s patients. My professional experiences with Dr. Bailie have been extremely positive. From the countless interactions that I have had with hundreds of surgeons, Dr. Bailie continues to impress me with his knowledge and ability to stay up to date on all current clinical/surgical practices. For example, Dr. Bailie employs an Evidenced Based Medicine Approach, which aids in optimizing his decisions based on researched and correlated evidence from his clinical experience. With this approach, knowing when patient success will derive from treatment and when success will derive from abstaining from treatment, is always at the forefront of Dr. Bailie’s practice.

Those who read this latter paragraph might first question the motivation behind this recommendation, but my accolades given to Dr. Bailie also come from very personal experiences. Specifically, Dr. Bailie operated on my son’s right knee in 2011 and on his left knee in 2013. I chose Dr. Bailie because those in my field and those that work in the field of Orthopedics recommended him. From start to finish, Dr. Bailie’s first priority was to make my son feel at ease and certain of the risks and benefits associated with surgery. On both occasions, Dr. Bailie conducted himself in a caring and professional manner. Furthermore, Dr. Bailie personally followed up with my son to check on his progress and to answer any questions my son had. To reiterate, Dr. Bailie did not do this because I was a physician or a colleague, it is what I have come to expect, but more importantly, respect about how Dr. Bailie practices.

Approximately 15 years ago I experienced my first encounter with a serious injury. At the time I was a trainer for top world class athletes. One of my students fell on my knee and completely blew my knee apart. I was sent in an ambulance to the hospital in the most excruciating pain. The doctors said they needed to call in a top notch specialist for this injury and that was my first encounter with the best orthopedic surgeon I have ever met, Dr. Bailie. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever walk or do sports again. To this day however, I do all of my regular activities I participated in before my surgery, thanks to Dr. Bailie. Since then, my 2 sons, who are also top notch athletes have been patients of of Dr. Bailie. I’m sharing my experience with you so that you never have to wonder if you’re in the right hands. Dr. Bailie is a true professional and great at what he does. I trust him with my entire family. I hope nobody ever needs the type of surgery I needed, but if so please don’t waist your time trying to find a doctor on the internet. Go to Dr. Bailie and let your mind be at ease.

At the age of 48 and suffering with shoulder pain for more than 10 years from an accident and previous surgery, losing the ability to lift my right arm higher than my chest I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Bailie and his staff. I had seen several doctors; chiropractors did X-Rays, MRI’s and treatments in which none offered any relief or solution to my injured shoulder. After determining that I had bone on bone, loss of cartilage and having a very arthritic shoulder Dr. Bailie recommended doing a Copeland Resurfacing Shoulder Replacement. The service that Dr. Bailie and his staff offered pre-op and post-op was amazing answering all questions or concerns. Following Dr. Bailie’s recommendation for therapy my arm has not felt nor worked this good since I had my accident in the mid 80’s. I work out 4 times a week at Orange Theory Fitness and am in the best shape of my life, I can thank Dr. Bailie and his staff for this. I can honestly say that Dr. Bailie and his recommendation changed my life and am so grateful for meeting him. Today if I was to call or text Dr. Bailie direct he is always quick to respond back. It is my great pleasure to recommend him as a great Orthopedic Surgeon. Thanks again to Dr. Bailie and his staff!

Would recommend to any and every athlete who is serious about making a comeback following an injury. Professional, quick, efficient, and most importantly, honest above all else. Provides unparalleled service as well as a detailed road map for your recovery. Following my shoulder surgery, I had zero, and I mean zero, complications with my shoulder. The surgery and recovery process put me in prime position to not only play again in the PAC-12, but also beyond at a professional level as well.

The superb care and expertise that Dr. David Bailie shows to each of his patients is second to none. When I tore my ACL at football practice in August of 2012, Dr. Bailie was recommended to me in the highest esteem. Dr. Bailie was with me every step of the way during my rehabilitation. He provided me with the most modern and sound medical advice on how to repair the torn ACL and on how to protect myself from future injury. Thanks to Dr. Bailie's knowledge and wonderful work, I have been able to successfully return to the sport I love with absolutely no problems. I highly recommend Dr. Bailie for any orthopedic work you may need. He's the best.

I have been a triathlete for 30 years now, thanks to Dr. David Bailie and his surgical skill in putting my shoulders back together after bike accidents, ski accidents, and general wear and tear from swimming most of my life. I had a great deal of success for the first 13 years traveling the world as a professional triathlete competing in Ironman Triathlons, until I was hit by a car while riding my bike, breaking my elbow and shoulder. Dr. Bailie repaired the rotator cuff and biceps biceps tendon a few years later after I could no longer stand the pain when I trained.

Eight months later, I returned to Ironman. Dr. Bailie subsequently fixed the opposite shoulder three years later and I once again qualified for Hawaii Ironman while winning my age group at a half Ironman distance in Monoco.

The shoulder surgeries put me back on the road to training, racing and enjoying my lifestyle as a healthy and competitive triathlete. I'm now 50 and still rocking it. Thanks to Dr. David Bailie.

See you on the road!

Following surgery I not only competed as a fitness competitor but I WON the Fitness World Championships and became a PRO Fitness Competitor.

Thank you!

I have been a tennis coach and agent for professional players for the past 25 years and selecting the right surgeon to take care of my athletes is the most important and crucial decision I have faced during my entire career. Dr. Bailie has personally worked with all of our international world class players to ensure their injuries had minimal effect in their career. Dr. Bailie has guided me over the past 20 years to improve their performance. Injuries are a part of tennis and of sports. The higher the level of competition the more important managing there injuries becomes. Through our travels competing in the ATP, WTA and ITF tours we have dealt with the most prestigious surgeons in the world and I know Dr. Bailie is one of the best in the world. I personally chose him to have my knee operated by him and I can't praise him enough for the way I feel now and the way he and his staff managed from the first to the last detail of the process.

It has been our privilege to have Dr. Bailie involved with Justin Sports Medicine Team with Pro rodeo for over 15 years. I have had the honor to work with great doctors across the country covering 125 Pro rodeos every year. Dr. Bailie has a unique quality of not only being an exceptional surgeon but relates to our rodeo athletes and their specific needs. Working with rodeo athletes requires unconventional approaches that differ from the normal professional athlete. I personally have trusted Dr. Bailie with my own problems and with my family and I would think that a higher complement could not be paid. AS director of a large physical therapy clinic as well, I have treated many of his patients for nearly 2 decades. Dr. Bailie is dedicated to giving the highest quality of care to every patient and surgical outcomes have been exceptional across the board.

It has been a privilege to work with Dr. Bailie over the past 20+ years. I have been able to work with him to rehabilitate literally 100’s of his post-operative patients following rotator cuff repair, shoulder replacement and labral repair, as well as with many more patients who have received expert diagnostic expertise from Dr. Bailie and were able to avoid surgery through a rehabilitation program. Working together with Dr. Bailie has been one of the highlights of my professional career, as he believes strongly in combining his clinical practice with research. We have been able to author many papers, book chapters and research studies together during this time, demonstrating Dr. Bailie’s continued commitment to excellence and continuing education throughout his career. Our research has focused on outcomes following surgery, as well as analyzing shoulder function in elite overhead athletes. He is in constant contact with his patients and the physical therapists during rehabilitation allowing for a continuum of care which is essential to achieve the highest level of clinical outcomes. I have referred hundreds of patients to him, who have received both expert care, as well as personalized, caring customer service from Dr. Bailie and his team.

In my late twenties I started having severe pain in both my shoulders. I figured the pain was caused by the years of training in competitive Judo, wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I initially saw my PCP and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis. They recommended I see a specialist.

Over several years I saw four different prominent orthopedic surgeons in the Valley and they all said the same thing; my condition required a total shoulder replacement. However I was too young and I would have to live with pain until I was older or until it became unbearable. In the meantime they tried cortisone injections, hyaluronan injections and anti-inflammatory drugs. None of these treatments did anything to diminish the pain.

I became increasingly frustrated. I wanted to continue my training but I could barely lift my arms up to put on a shirt and my arms felt as though they could fall out of the socket at any time. That’s when I started doing my own research. I found Dr David Bailie and read about the different type of procedure he had been performing. From my initial consultation he walked me through the procedure and finally offered me an alternative to cutting off half my arm at only 38 years of age! And more importantly, it would offer me the opportunity to train again!

I had Dr Bailie perform my first shoulder surgery in November 2011 on my left arm. The surgery went great and I began physical therapy very shortly after. I had Dr Bailie perform the same operation on my right shoulder three months later followed by more PT. Again, everything went great.

Within less than a year from my first surgery with Dr. Bailie and after a lot of hard work in physical therapy, I again began training in Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Both of these martial arts place a lot of stress on the shoulder joints but I never had an issue having joint locks applied or taking hard Judo throws. Also, since the surgery I’ve competed in and won Jiu Jitsu tournaments and ran in the grueling Spartan obstacle course race (which included a 25 foot rope climb). I can weight lift heavy weights and perform pushups without any pain. I can also sleep on both sides comfortably.

The surgery and PT did require work but I am absolutely grateful to have had the operation performed. As a result, I have achieved more than I could have ever hoped. My only regret is not meeting Dr. Bailie and his team earlier and avoiding years of unnecessary pain and frustration.

It just dawned on me that I met you 11 years ago today. Thanks to you and your quick diagnosis and referral to a specialist, I am still here today. Thanks you for seeing me as a “multi-million dollar athlete”. I can assure you that the fact that I survived Osteosarcoma has allowed me to live a life that has impacted many people in a very positive way. So, just a reminder that what you do matters and reaches far beyond the world of sports. With gratitude always
